Movie Review: Catch and Release

I will try my very best to not ruin this movie.

I read this review about and I was very dissapointed. Chris Beaumont, a  movie critic wannabe sadly awarded this movie two stars. He started out by saying that the characters were “thin”. The characters did not work in the movie and did nothing for it. He thought the movie was too long. He also called it a bad soap opera. He didn’t like it at all and wished he hadn’t wasted his money.

After reading this article I must say that I completely dissagree. I loved this movie. It’s beautiful story of a woman overcoming her fiancee’s death. As she copes, she soon learns more about who he really was and discovers secrets that she may have never found out. I think that a guy’s opinion really doesn’t work for this kind of movie. For the most part, it’s a chick flick. I must also say that I love Jennifer Garner, which made me like the movie even more. There were some things that I was a little “iffy” on. Some of the material was inappropriate. There may be better movies, but this one definitely deserved more than two stars.

Britney ‘attempted rehab suicide’

I found this article about Britney Spears. After shaving her head she went rehab and everything went fine at first. Evidence shows that either Britney Spears is looking for a new kind of attention or she is really losing her mind. She has written 666 in her room and shouting half naked around the room that she was the anti-christ. She has also been continuously begging Kevin for restoration. She wants him to come back saying that she wants to have another baby and restore their once happy family. She continued to show weird behavior. She was found trying to hang herself with her bedsheets, but was luckily stopped. Britney Spears has truly taken a turn for the worst.

I must say that I was very sad after reading this article. For a long as I can remember Britney Spears has always been around. She’s made herself an icon and her songs are unforgettable. She may taken some wrong turns growing up and many of her decisions were immoral. It’s sad that the media and paparazzi are finally taking a toll on her. I don’t really think she’s losing her mind. I think that she definitel needs help and the anctics that she has been currently pulling are just crys for help. I really do hope that she gets her life together for her and her children’s sakes. She may not be a great role model, but for some people she is and because of that, I hope that she finds her way back.

When Special Effects Become a Distraction

This was found amongst the users comments on the imdb (Earth’s Biggest Movie Database) website. Out of all the good reviews, I found one person who extremely disliked Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Dead Man’s Chest. The user, moly3158 was very firm about what she said. She talked about how the there were too many special effects which crowded the movie. She also talked about the plot twists and how they were useless and goofy. She also (assuming moly3158 is a girl) didn’t like the crazy anctics of the infamous Johnny Depp. She said it was all too much of an attempt for attention. The last thing she picked at was the grossness of the movie. She said it was far too much and uneccessary.

I don’t know about others, but I completely dissagree. I enjoyed this movie, in fact I own it. I thought the special affects were awesome and completely well done. I loved the Kraken. I also thought the goofiness of the move was very useful. It was perfect comic relief because some scenes were pretty scary. I am also a big Johnny Depp fan and I loved every one of his little gimmicks. I must admit though, some things were kind of gross, but it was nothinxg too sick. It was all very light and funny. Of course I have to admit that the first one was much better, but when it comes to sequals, what movie has ever beat out the first?

Anna Nicole Smith laid to rest near son

Anna Nicole Smith was laid to rest Friday in the Bahamas. She may have been laid to rest, but her baggage still lives on. There is still the ligitation surrounding, a mult-million-dollar inheritance and the question of who would take care of her baby daughter Dannielynn.

The funeral was held at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Hundreds of people gathered at the gate. Bahamian onlookers broke into hymn as they watched the funeral. Anna lay in a mahogany coffin wrapped in a studded pink blanket. Police were dressed in white with pith helmets. Under 100 people showed up of the 300 that were invited.
I think what happened to Anna Nicole Smith was so sad. She may not have been a very good role and the things she did were immoral, but she was not a bad person. She went through a lot growing and over came so much. She lost her son, but gained a daughter in the same day. It was such a tradgedy of what happened to her. She had a baby and she was so young. I hope the baby will find a good home and a kind family to raise her.

Top 5 Tips to Cut the Clutter

Clutter is a term William Zinsser uses for the disease of American writing. He says that we as a society strugggle with unnecessay words, circular constructions, pompous frills, and meaningless jargon. Don’s waste words is the one rule to follow when writing He also gives five easy tips to follow when writing.

The first tip is “reduce long clauses”. In writing, people tend to make things longer and more wordy than they really have to be. The tip is to keep it to the point and make it flow well. The second tip is “reduce phrases.” This tip is ver similar to tip one, but instead of trying to make words flow well, people should try to reduce phrases to single word. For example, insead of saying “the clown at the end of the line jumped,” say “the last clown jumped.” The third tip is “avoid empty openers.” The author says to avoid the openers There is, There are, and There were. He says that There does nothing for a sentence. The fourth tip is “don’t overwork modifiers.” Modifiers are the words like only, really, or totally. He says they add nothing to the sentence so if you don’t really need them, drop them. The fifth and final tip is “avoid redundancies.” An example of doing it wrong would be “At this point in time we should leave.” When avoiding redundancies the sentence would be like this “Now we should leave.”

When I first read this article I thought it was talking about room clutter and tips to keep things clean. I read on and found it very interesting anf useful. I think a lot of people, like me, do this. When I say do this, I mean we all probably forget the rules and loose ourselves in our writing. I for one never follow tip three. I absolutlely love using modifiers. I know that my work could use some improvement. I am not doing this aticle to try and change other people’s writing. I will still probably use modifiers, but I might shorten my sentences more. I just thought we could all use a couple writing tips…after all, this is a writing class.

Winter Blues: Let’s Talk

This article really gets to the core of the seasonal affective disorder (SAD). It discusses what it’s all about and affective ways to get over it. SAD is associated with being depressed during the winter season. Sleepiness, social withdrawl, and cravings for sugary or starchy foods are general symptoms that occur when someone is going through SAD. It also affects more women than men and also college student who have moved from a southern region to a northern region.

A common treatment that is being used more often is light therapy. It is a type of therapy where someone sits in front of a light box for about a half an hour a day. Another way of getting rid of SAD are normal 90 minute a day therapy sessions. These sessions discuss the negative and turn them into positive. A second step to this therapy is just having the patient do something fun. The article listed photography and woodworking. These studies are both very affective and proven otherwise.

I don’t know about others, but I myself feel somewhat depressed during the winter. I have never gone to the extreme like SAD, but I feel low sometimes. I find myself always sitting in front of the television or computer all the time. It probably really affects me because I lived in Florida for so long and I’m still getting used to the weather here. Back to the article though, I can see howthe treatment when people do fun activities can really help. I love playing guitar. When I’m playing, I feel in control and at peace. I think I will continue to do so, at least more often. But seriously…I am so ready for spring.

Teens: Suburban Blues

Suburban Blues was about the difference between teens growing up in the city and those that grew up in suburbs. It was quite interesting. Studies showed that the teenagers who grew up in the city did not have as much adjustment problems as those in the suburbs. Despite the physical and mental help, they are much more affected. Suburban high schoolers are depressed, smoke, drink, and use more hard drugs. They also have a lot of anxiety and depression. Studies believe that the reason why this is is pressure of achievement. Suburban parents are apparently more likely to pressure their kids into to doing things. This pressure causes this anxiety and the only way these teens find peace is through the dark road of drugs and abuse.

I for one was very surprised to learn this. I don’t know if I completely believe it, but I can see why it might be. I have always felt that the cities would be more corrupt than the suburbs. With all the crime there, it just made sense. For the main reason wh this happens is partly true, but in my opinion, I think they do things like that because of the shelter. Teens in the city have seen everything. I think teenagers in the suburbs are not exposed to enough and over sheltered. Teenagers are thrown into the world without any idea of how to live in it. I think that this is the core reason why anxiety corrupts them. If more exposure for the teens comes into the picture, than I truly believe that the city and suburbs will be more equal when it comes to adjustment problems.

My Husband Will Call Me Tomorrow

This article is a touching story about a mother named Becky Herz. She is trying to raise a family while her husband is away. Her husband serves in the National Guard and everyday she must live with the thought that he will call her tomorrow. In her testimony she talks about an ordinary day for her. She must take care of the family on her own. She mus carry on thinking everything is fine. She must believe that her husband will call her tomorrow.

I loved this story because it reminded of a stream of consciousness, which it might have been. It’s touching how that women can just live on, knowing that her husband is in the middle of a terrible war. It kind of taught me a lesson. People can’t reflect on the bad. When they are unsure of what is happening, they should always focus on the postive. I for one believe that this story is not only a testament of one women’s belief, but also a reflection of how others should see things. After all, she wouldn’t express herself if it wasn’t working.

PT Bookshelf

Have you ever felt like people just aren’t listening to you? You have a message but you can’t find the right words or you have no attention from others. This idea discusses the idea of having an idea and not keeping it on the bookshelf.

It contains six sensible steps to getting a message out and making it stick. The first step is simplicity. People should use words that other people can understand. They should just keep things simple. The second tip is unexpectedness. People can keep others attention if they wow them with something with something they will never forget. The third step is concreteness. What someone says should be true and it’s highly recommended to back up an idea up with real facts. The fourth is credibility. People should be able to use this piece of information in their lives. If it’s important to them, it will hold their attention. The fifth is when telling someone, show emotion. People can really tell if you care about what your talking about. They will not be interested if you aren’t. The last is stories. People love stories and by telling someone something through a story, people will usually be attentive.

I don’t know about you guys, but sometimes i feel like I’m talking to a wall. People just don’t listen sometimes. I found this article very useful. This is a great way to go about things. I think that it could yes be used for giving an idea, but I think something like this could be used for giving something so much as a report in school. Telling stories and showing emotion are great ways to keep people interested while your giving a presentation. So listen up and use them. It’s great advice when your trying to give advice.

Revenge of the Size 12 Woman

Models and celebrities, there seen everywhere; billboards, magazines, runways, and more. People will continueously feel that their body isn’t right. They feel like their supposed to look like the women they see everyday. This article discusses the needs of a women. The need to be slender. The need to be attractive. The need to be healthy and the need to be needed. Although it’s highly wanted by women, it’s not what the commpanies should be loooking for when it comes to selling a product.

Interesting enough, perfection does not equal persuation. Studies show that women will be persuaded by people who are more like them. In a regular infommercial people will try to sell a product. They may have a celebrity, but they will always have true stories from everyday people who talk about how great the product is. Research shows that people who are real and not given a script are more convincing than ones with one.

I thought that this article was very interesting. It reminded me of the infommercial for “Proactive”. Jessica Simpson was the main spokes woman for it. She told her story of how she struggled with acne allher life and how Proactive saved her skin. I saw this and thought “we’ll she’s being paid to do that”. After people with before and after shots came on, I became very interested. With the average regular people, the produc becomes very real and believeable. It’s just as I said, “perfection does not equal persuation”.
